New audio technology

New audio technology could revolutionize the industry.

A group of scientists have developed a new audio technology in the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK).
Directional audio coding (DirAC) technique aims to produce the best possible sound for the listener regardless of how many speakers the sound system has and where the speakers are located. TKK has now sold the protecting patents to a German research organization Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.


The technique is based on Spatial Impulse Response Rendering (SIRR) and would use for example a remote control to measure and determine what kind of speaker setup surrounds the listener. By transmitting audio and metadata between the microphone, the audio system and the speakers it would produce optimal audio quality for the listener. The technology is said to be suitable for teleconferencing as well.

According to TKK DirAC could become the industry standard. The recordings would hold 1-3 channels of audio and metadata. However, the studies are not yet finished.

NEW Sony 3D Blueray Player

Sony has released a new standalone Blu-ray player, the BDP-S470.

Just another new Blu-ray player? Not quite. This one will output 3D. Sort of.

All the usual features are here: 1080p/24, BD-Live, and Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video (which includes NetFlix, Amazon on Demand, and more). New is the ability to use an iPhone or touch as a remote control, complete with cover art and production information on the iPhone/touch screen. The app is called "BD Remote" and is available on Apple's App Store.

It even plays SACDs!

Overall a gteat Blu-ray Player.

Paradigm Signature S8

Paradigm Signature S8 Speaker System is kind of like a BMW 3 Series salesman trying to come to grips with an M5 in terms of explaining the difference between a good piece of kit and an outstanding one which transcends the normal boundaries of that type of product. To get a handle on how good these speakers really are, I've had to resort to my Dirty Tricks Manual. The picture doesn't do these speakers justice, in the flesh they are a superb piece of work, more like a sculpture than a speaker and the finish, available in Cherry, Gloss Black or Rosenut, is flawless. Big buggers too at 123 cm high, 52 cm deep and 21 cm across weighing 45 kgs each. They may be imposing but they impose gracefully. I won't even go into the technical specifications..

I've never heard sound so good. One gets the feeling these speakers can be driven up to and beyond concert levels without distress, a saving grace for me after a few glasses (or bottles) of wine.

So if you looking for great speakers and don't want to spend $50,000 on a pair the next choice would be to purchase these fantastic Paradigm Signature S8 speakers for only A$ 22,400
